The photographs used on the back cover of this book were taken by the author, Phyllis Eileen Banks, and then manipulated (by me) in Photoshop to compliment the overall cover design. The map on the front cover was donated by the New Mexico Vacation Guide and used by permission of New Mexico Magazine. I enhanced the maps with a color wash and added the special effects fonts to produce the final product pictured here. It was a team effort and I thank Ms. Banks and New Mexico Magazine for their contributions. Roaming Southern New
Mexico by Phyllis Eileen Banks is a book of thumbnail sketches, which
includes historical vignettes about the settlements, towns, and villages of this
area. It is also an effort to make readers aware of some beautiful places in the
larger, southern portion of the state: White Sands; Carlsbad Caverns; apple,
pear, apricot, and cherry orchards in the spring; skiing in Ruidoso and
Cloudcroft; the Gila Cliff dweller ruins; chili, cotton, and alfalfa fields; oil
wells; ranch life; the ghost towns of Mogollon; White Oaks; Shakespeare and
Steins; and other amazing events such as fishing, bird watching, hiking,
telescopes, camping, unusual fiestas, rodeos, duck races, tomb stone races,
horse races, and lizard races. It's a fun book and you'll love it! (Adapted from the back cover text of Roaming Southern New Mexico by Phyllis Eileen Banks).
